Joost Is On Deadpool Watch
I’m still an old-school kinda guy. I watch TV on my television. I use the computer for computer tasks. And if I decide to read a book, it will be with words on paper. So, I don’t really understand what the kiddies are doing watching all their tv shows on their computer. Hulu, Youtube, Joost, CollegeHumor, etc etc. To me, it’s all a newfangled way to waste time and burn brain cells.
But from what I hear, Joost is on its way down down down. It’s grainy video quality pales in comparison to the likes of Hulu and Youtube, it’s interface is also bane on its existence, and the users tell me that the regular updates interrupt their viewing displeasure.
And now, they went ahead and fired their CTO, Dirk-Willem van Gulik. To me, if a company takes down its Chief Technology Officer that helped start the company, then it usually means they are either going to close shop, sell off, or change their entire product.
Joost had a lot of things going for it. It was one of the first on the block to offer streaming TV at high quality, and the only one to offer a P2P advertising-based model. Of course, that idea came about because it was started by the founders of Skype and Kazaa. And with their Skype payout money, Joost had some of the most money behind it starting out, something like $2.8 Billion stuffed under a mattress. Just goes to show you, all the money in the world won’t do you any good if the product stinks.

I got an invitation earlier to test this service. But I’m not impressed. For a sport lover like me who relies on the net for watching live games, I have better free service providers which can satisfy my needs.

For those without easy access to cable, online TV is an alternative though there is no substitute for the actual TV screen itself. Online TV service for me hinges on the quality of TV shows shown online and how the broadband technology can better respond to video streaming online.

Why are you hating on youtube and collegehumor? Those sites are great because you find the media you want to watch, you don’t have to surf channels and sort through commercials to find something entertaining.
