Did the Holiday Rush Break UPS?
It appears as the jump in holiday shipments had caught UPS (NYSE UPS) by surprise. While UPS runs one of the largest and most technologically advanced computer systems on the planet, with operations in nearly every country, real-time satellite communications and more, it seems that didn’t help with the holiday crunch.
Most of UPS systems were able to handle the increased holiday orders; the one system that failed was the UPS billing system. Engineers have been working to fix the problem. Seems this billing cycle will be delayed, good for shippers, bad for UPS. It is expected that everything should be back to normal by the 14th but only time will tell.
Ultimately if one of the largest and most powerful communications network on earth failed, what happened to the other guys? Let us hope that the holiday push was enough to show the Brick and Mortar guys that the future of business is online and get them to start taking it seriously.
Good job UPS with getting most of those shipments out on time and good luck with this recent technology hiccup.

I used UPS to send packages to other countries several times and they are really fast, I’m sure the holidays did not affect them at all

Well, they are good at delivery time, I have to agree on that, but Fedex cares a lot more about the packages, they never damage anything, so they have an extra point over UPS

i do not like ups at all, i’d never send a package through them, i heard several stories about packs being lost, i am and will always be a fedex fan :P

UPS is a great company; don’t get me wrong, just letting people know that when their billings are late this coming week, you know why now ;)

I am sure they will work on it to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t repeat itself next holiday season.

@Lois
The only package I ever received via FedEx came smashed. Every package from UPS has been fine, almost like it was driven straight from the original location to my doorstep.
I still prefer using the post office though and I work for UPS, heh…
