New iPhone Trojan Horse Targets Personal Data

New iPhone Trojan Horse Targets Personal DataJust announced publicly this week, the first iPhone trojan horse has hit the public. At first glance, the trojan horse appeared completely benign but further research revealed that the attack targeted multiple applications including OpenSSH, the middleware solution which powers most SSL Communications. This standard protocol is used in the transmission of sensitive data including, but not limited to, credit card data.

Consumers are urged not to download the program called “iPhone firmware 1.1.3 prep” as it is not an official Apple (NASDAQ AAPL) release. Additionally, until Apple fixes the security hole here, consumers are asked not to use the iPhone for storing or transmitting personal data.

This leads us to the question: is the iPhone safe for ecommerce applications? With the upcoming explosion of new applications to hit the market this quarter, this blogger is saying no.

  1. wow, it took long, I thought something like that would come out a lot faster :P

  2. Ok, we all knew this was going to happen, but the point is, what is Apple doing to solve this problem?

  3. finally it happened, I wonder why it took so long, the so popular Iphone is clearly not safe for business, I mean, it got infected, so it’s already unsafe!

  4. The iphone is a great technological tool, but I have to say that I’d not use for doing business either, I’d rather stick to paper than using the iphone lol

  5. I don’t see any problems with that, it happens to the best programs, so no big deal, I’ll keep using mine both for personal and business things :P

  6. The iphone is a great device, but along that will sadly come all of those who will try to take advantage of it. I have heard several reports of people trying to hack the system and so forth. Hopefully a trusted company like apple can minimize and reduce problems efficiently and quickly.

  7. That is true, it’s such a great device, one of the best we’ve ever had, and again, people are taking advantage of something that should be used for good only

  8. iPhone is just a portable device like any other - laptops, etc. Sure it would be targeted by the selfish virus makers to make few quick bucks. Sad people. Huhu.
